The Great Barrier Reef
The warm, clear waters of the reef support an astonishing variety of life. Here, fairy basslets can be seen shoaling over vividly coloured soft corals. Bright coloration can serve several purposes for reef fish, including helping members of a species to recognize each other and acting as a warning to predators.
